Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is one of the components of NLP but can be used successfully in its own right as a therapeutic process to promote positive change.

Contrary to popular belief it is not a state of deep sleep but one of deep relaxation, where the conscious mind is suppressed and the subconscious mind is revealed. Hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind enabling any irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts or suppressed emotions to be overcome.

Hypnosis is thought to work by altering our state of consciousness so that the conscious analytical part of the brain is turned off and the subconscious non-analytical part is turned on.

For example, someone who consciously wants to overcome their fear of spiders may try everything they consciously can to do so, but keep failing as long as their subconscious mind retains the fear. Progress can only be made by reprogramming the subconscious so that deep seated instincts and beliefs are eradicated or altered.

It is however vitally important that a person wants to create the change and is motivated to do so. People cannot be made to do anything they wouldn’t wish to do.
